A downloadable game

Hey guys we are wondering about a few things:

1) How does the movement feel. When you run around does the speed feel good ass opposed to the walk? Do you think we need a walk speed at all or maybe just an intermediate jogging speed by default? How does the jump feel?

2) When moving around the map does it feel to cluttered? Not cluttered enough? (Only 1/4th of the map has foliage currently) Does the overall map size feel good or to large? How do the models look? (both bears and environment)

3) Does the throw trajectory track properly for you? Is there anything hard about controlling the aim mechanism?

4) What would you like to see on the HUD? We were thinking a campfire level meter as well as a night counter. For menus we are planning on implementing a start menu, pause menu, and game over menu. Are there any additional accessibility features we can include?

5) When playing the game is there anything that stands out? Anything that you think would improve the game overall? Any opinion you have helps us fine tune our game!

Thanks Guys! Enjoy!

The movement feels great. Most Indie 3D Unity games feel like garbage but yours feels really good!

I think it is just the right amount of clutter.

I feel like i cant throw right in front of me, maybe if im looking down a certain amount it just places it? Also having the pick up and throw buttons different is really weird to me. You could have it act as a context key where if you are not holding an item, e picks it up and then if you are holding an object, e would throw it.

Definitely a health bar!

A bear spawned right next to where I spawned and no matter how much I punched it I was not able to kill him. Also the campfire did not provide any protection.

1. The movement feels pretty good. I don't think you need to increase the speed, but I would like a jogging mechanic.

2.  I think the bears are a bit too small for the humans, and the area that I was able to explore was fairy populated.

3. I could not figure out the throw mechanic, since there were no instructions or opening scene. I was only able to figure it out through trial and error. the aim feels a bit clunky and I could benefit from a reticle to aim.

4. I think what you have in the question is what's needed for the game.

5. Honestly, I think the bears are a bit too small, and I feel that some textures for the play area can improve the game overall.

1) The speed feels pretty good, and so does the jump. But the jump has you going very high compared to the height of the trees. It was helpful in traversing the hills in the area though.

2) It feels a little cluttered, and running through the forest it's kind of hard to see where you are going.

3) The throwing looks correct, and I didn't have problems aiming. I did have problems figuring out which buttons would let you interact with the logs though.

4) A night counter and fire meter sound good. I would also suggest a health bar for your character.

5) Feedback when you attack a bear would be good, and of course an indicator to show whether the log you've thrown at the fire has helped at all.

1. Your basic movement is there. Run, walk, and jump all feel fine. I think there needs to be more environmental stuff to traverse to really see what the movement system can do.

2. The world did feel quite cluttered and I wasn't sure how far I could explore visually. I walked through the forest a bit but opening up the area a bit more and making it look like you can explore it a bit more would help the environment feel good.

3.  I think switching to a reticle of some sort for the throwing would be good. It is a very inconsistent throw and it's tough to judge the throwing arc a lot of the time. The sphere does generally show where it will land but the bounce of the projectiles makes it tough and the fire doesn't always register that the wood is around it.

4. Health, how many bears you defeated, night count, and maybe fire strength would be good things to have on the HUD. Maybe some sort of mini map to help you navigate the terrain. Think those are good ones to look into putting in.

5. I think the bear spawning and bear combat are the big things to get the game going. Increasing the bear size I think is a good start because I was expecting some Cabela's Dangerous Hunts level of bear where they are big and mean death dealers. I think implementing damage systems for both player and bear is what you need. Bear combat seems to be a big part of this game and I've been looking forward to that the most.

Excited to see what you guys got coming up in future updates.

1) Honestly I don't know how to run in your game, but the walking felt alright, nothing to crazy. The jump feels alright, but there's not a lot to really jump over so while it's fun I don't know what other use it really has.

2) The foliage in your map looks nice so far, but one issue I noticed is that you can basically climb any of the mountains and it is pretty easy to climb to the edge of the map of fall into the endless abyss below. I think if the map was even bigger that would be nice to help give a sense that you are in a dense forest, something you could potentially get lost in until the bears find you and attack. Also I think the mini bear is cute, but a larger more menacing bear is probably more fitting for your game.

3) The throwing seems inconsistent, sometimes the arc tracks correctly but other times the wood goes way too far. You can also see the sphere at the end of the arc all the time, even when you are not holding anything which is a little annoying.

4) I think a campfire level would be great, and if you do add a night counter it might also be nice to see how much time is left per night.

5) One thing I noticed is that sometimes the framerate would be pretty choppy, and also I could hear my laptop really crank up the fan and it sounded like there was some intense processing going on. My computer is fairly new so I think there may be some performance issues that are slowing down your game you may want to check.

1) I feel like the walking speed feels fine but I didn't know how to run so I never got to test that.  If there is a run I don't see a real need for it unless you speed up the bear movements.

2) I think the map looks good.  There is not too much clutter and I think the vegetation looks good.  I like the model for the bear and logs but was unsure if the logs are supposed to be picked up.  I can only pick up the boxes.  The map seems appropriate based on the speed of movements.  Any larger would definitely require faster movements.

3) The throw trajectory seems a bit off.  I would try to aim directly on the fire but the box seemed to get thrown just a little past where I was aiming.  The aiming mechanism is a little glitchy and seems to jump around rather than track smoothly.

4) I think the HUD definitely needs some sort of health indicators for the bear and character.  I couldn't tell if I was doing damage to the bear when punching or if the bear was doing damage to the character.  I don't think a campfire meter is needed if the actual fire grows and shrinks.  But I  think some sort of indicator for that would be nice.

5) I think the bear needs some sort of attack animation or some visual seen on the character when they are  being attacked by the bear.  Same for the bear, I couldn't tell if I was punching the bear or not since the punch is so much higher than the bear.  It would also be nice to be able to pick up actual logs and that any objects thrown on the fire actually go into the fire rather than fly over it or bounce off of it.  Overall the game looks really good, I think it's just missing some mechanics

1.) I think the running and walking speeds feel good, and I don't really feel a need for an intermediate.  The jump also feels good, although I didn't really feel the need to use it.  The one thing that doesn't feel good in regards to the controls is the camera, which jumps around really badly for me.

2.) I think the map has a good amount of clutter, and I like the models.  It did feel a bit strange to clip through all of the environment though.

3.) I couldn't figure out how to pick things up, I'm not sure if I wasn't close enough, too close, or just not pressing the correct button.

4.) I think a health meter, or at least some way of seeing how damaged you are, would be useful on the HUD.  Otherwise, I think your planned features are good.

5.) I felt pretty lost as for what to do.  I knew from your presentations in class that you could pick things up, but I couldn't figure out how to do that, so I ended up just wandering around the map for a bit.

One thing I noticed was that it was difficult to turn the camera using the mouse. For some reason the camera does no turn smoothly and instead snaps to certain parts of the map.

Another bug I noticed was that when the player jumps and the bear is close to the player, the bear starts to wiggle around the player, as if the bear is attached to the player as the player is jumping

Regarding the HUD it would be nice to see a health bar or some indication as to how close to player is from dying.

I feel like the models of the bears look good but I think that the bears should be much bigger than the player.
